The Effect of Perceived Burdensomeness and Failed Belongingness to Elderly Suicidal Ideation

Abstract
This study is to understand how ¡¯perceived burdensomeness¡¯ and ¡¯failed belongingness¡¯ affect elderly suicidal ideation. 550 men and women, who were over 64 years old and lived in Pusa n?Gyeong-Nam area, were surveyed. The result revealed that there are significant differences on their state of marriage, family structure, job status, economic satisfaction, health, and religion. Especially both ¡¯perceived burdensomeness¡¯ and ¡¯failed belongingness¡¯ have statistically significant
major effects. On the base of the result of this study, we discussed the political and practical implications to prevent suicide among the elderly.
